why some people attract negative energy

Anonymous

Hello there,
I have been a spiritual student for 5 years. Have developed a lot of peace in my own inner world. It was important, because I work with sick people all the time and needed to be able to view my work in a compassionate and loving way instead of a tired way (I am a cardiologist with lots of interrupted nights). However, my wife, who I love dearly has been having a lot of trouble. She is beautiful and very social. Loves to mingle and usually is the center of attraction. She is loving and is never condescending. however, she attracts a lot of negative energy from supposed friends and supporters. she recently found out about a lot of harsh stuff said about her causing her to drop out of a organized committee which she cherished a lot. I do know people resent her attractiveness, howver, this has happened twice in a very vicious manner. There has been no real reason for these situations as we see them. I am supportive of her as I know her deeply and do know that she has never attempted directly or indirectly to hurt anyone. And because of my influence, I have prevented her from reacting to these circumstances, and striking back.

Dilemma? I hope I am not worsening her situation by asking her to choose peace over confrontation. I know this may not seem important in the larger context, but I needed suggestions on how to help her handle these situations. Also, how can she learn what about her is attracting these situations?

(apologize for the long note, but i felt it neccessary to be detailed.)

Thanks
God Bless

Hello SC,

I have been in a similar situation with my wife as well. She is the most considerate and compassionate person I've ever known in my entire life. Her job is a stressful one and people tend to drain her energy and bring her down with them. She doesn't try to attract negative energy on purpose, its only that she has yet to learn how to raise her own energy level higher which will dispel lower energies when they come into her presence.

I cannot force her to meditate and see things as she desires them to be. I know she has to come to her own path and choose each time which way she will go. She has witnessed the changes in me since I started my spiritual journey and how after I meditate I walk around with a smile most of the time now.

I started to meditate an extra 10 minutes a day for her in the morning before she goes to work. I see her as happy and protected from people who would do her harm. I extend my energy to her and choose to extend forgiveness to those that have wronged her.

Since doing my extra meditation for her I have seen an incredible change in her and her work environment. The people that have tried to harm her and have spoken ill of her behind her back have all received just reward for there actions without either of us holding a grudge and desiring to get even. I personally had to watch my inner dialogue when she would tell me of her woes at work so I wouldn't go down with my own energy.

Now she desires to learn about meditation and how to do it. I look forward to seeing the positive changes in her life from her own meditations.

I know that you and your wife will come through it all stronger and better people for it. Remember Rule #6.

Have a great & affluent life!

Eric

Why is it we attract negative energy??? Honestly for myself it is MY state of mind which colors my world, directs my vision. There is a woman online who had a website I found years ago, a degree in psychology from Yale, is beautiful, kind and full of wisdom. She allowed me to see that nobility was the ability to not lose sight of who I am when everyone else around me may be reflecting negativity.

It is the ability to live with an open heart.

It is the state of walking the warrior path. There is a good book titled Shambala the path of the warrior.

Yet mostly what I wish to say is that your comments showed me the importance of relationships. September has not been easy for me. Truthfully it seems as if it has come and gone so quickly and I am still in August.

Synchronicity? Not using spell chuck. I pick up a Dyer book and open to a page where he talks of meditation and his relationship with his wife. I have been opening my heart to seeing the syndhronicity in my life this month, and see meditation & relationships, now it is time to do the leg work!

I won't go into detail, yet I just wanted to say that I appreciated your posts and know that healing thoughts are being sent your way.

One thought came to me as I read the first post, that possibly your wife is being directed to finding another purpose. That the activities and committees she is working with are not the ones which she is meant to.

With love and support she will find her way.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.
Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies.
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you.
Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone may destroy overnight.
Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, people may be jealous.
Be happy anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough.
Give the world the best you've got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is all between you and God.
It was never between you and them anyway.

Hello Hazel,

Thank you for the kind words and encouragement. My lovely wife desires to change careers but is in a process of growth and self discovery. I am their to help her anyway I can but not interfere with the Universe. This can be a daunting thing to be so harmonious with one person yet keep a detachment that allows each person to grow and expand their own Universe.

I have also realized that we are power when we meditate the very essence of creation is one with us. We can desire and intend for our loved ones and friends to be the kind of people we see them as like loving, kind and patient. How often do we forget that things change and so do people. Let us not forget how hard it was for us when we changed to become better people for it is hard for them also. Let us remember to extend the seven faces of intention to those that come into are lives and the ones that are here now.

There is a new month coming have you thought about what your desired October will look like?

Sincerely,
Eric

Eric,
Thank you for sharing your experience. What you say does ring true. In a different way, I have started some visualization meditation for my wife. I think I am already seeing a difference. I think my wife also is starting to see the value om meditation etc. but I can tell it is more interest at a conscious level. I don't think it is internally driven yet.

Thanks a lot for your comments

Hazel,
Thanks for your kind and insightful words. I am curious as to how you developed the ability to walk in grace despite what negativity may be around you. You do sound like you have developed a lot of peace in your life. I agree with your comment about synchronicity (meditaiton and relationships). I think I am still trying ot develop that. I hope that if I keep working on this vein, I wil be able to reach a point where I can be at high enough energy levels to be able to raise energylevels of my patients as I work on or with them.

Best wishes and feel free to share any advice you may have

Ron

What I believe I am reading here is that you believe that if you work hard enough you will be able to raise the energy levels of your patients - right? Please understand that you cannot raise the level of energy in your patients! Only they can! You can stimulate their thinking, encourage them, etc., but they must alone make the choice of raisiing their level - making the choice to get better. I have had some experience in the field of energy healing and gone to practitioners as well. Please be a bit more specific and I will be better in understanding what it is you wish to do.

wink Oh how proficient one can sound with the written word ...
maybe
oops would be a better emoticons...

You should see me now. Allowing my energy to be displaced by old baggage, thinking I am responsible for everyone in my life I am worn down, ragged.

I gave a lot of thought to your question, Eric as to what I desired October to look like. Asking myself did I see less chaos, more humor, spontaniety, creativity, kindness. Then I looked inward. SC, the issue of conscious level vs. internally driven. Thank you. Seeing myself becoming more internally driven. Yet to be so I have to be more disciplined. Responsible for myself. It is specifically grace that I am seeing. To not lose sight of my true purpose, who I truly am when walking through chaos. Strength to sustain the energy of grace not the depletion of energy. This will come with meditation . Knowing this to be true conciously, I am reminded to focus on being internally driven.

SC, it has been my experience that when my energy level is high that others who are receptive do seem to benefit. When I am in the presence of others who have that quality I too have often been refreshed. Your patients all ready benefit from the choices you are making.

Thank you Hazel. You certainly have a beautiful way of expressing yourself. If I understood you correctly, the best way to continue to develop a more grounded approach is to meditate and possibly surrounf myself with high energy people.

Ron,

Thanks for your response. I do believe that energy healing is something that needs to be combined with modern medicine. Too often our therapy is symptom driven, which is very neccessary. However, as most disease recur, I believe we are not curing the source of illness. i am interested in learning if there is a way to bring about true healing. It maybe that I am trying to ask the same question 2 different ways. So far it hasn't truly crystallized in my mind. What has your experience been with energy healing arts?

Thanks

I can walk into a room and feel the energy, positive or negative. I am uplifted by loving happy energy or can be pulled down from the negative. I have learned to bless the negative with love and move on in love, knowing that all of us are on our own path and are doing the best we can on the level of where we are. It helps to realize that what you are feeling are anothers energy and not your own, we choose what we want to own. I am a hairdresser, I am trained in Reiki, a very healing art. My clients get Reiki as I wash their hair. They do not even know it, they just feel a loving energy. The negatives that I hear could be overwhelming to me if I did not know that I am on my own spiritual path and it has nothing to do with theirs other than I always feel that they are my clients on purpose. ( and I am very booked all of the time ) I see the medical world as a dirty little sandbox that I do not want to play in. I believe that good health comes from within. The anger, stress, hate, resentment and fear create the health problems that people have, the body can many times heal itself if given the time to balance. The chemicals being thrown at the public in this day and age are just unbelieveable and such a shame. There is supposed to be a pill for everything. A pill to fix what another pill does to you. I get on a soap box about this many times with my clients. However it is very interesting how many people need or want their illness for a reason. When a person is ready they will hear. And there are many that are not ready, but always some that are. The medical world will change when we each start to become responsible for ourselves and stop expecting someone else to fix us. It is refreshing to know there are doctors that are becoming spiritual.

I had to put in my 2 cents, love heals all things. To send love and let it go. Life is learning and it's okay to try on different layers but you then realize that some of them don't fit you. Then you try on another until you find the one that does fit.

It's really okay to say I don't want to wear that anymore.
I hope all of this is understandable...
Love to all!

Thanks for your thoughts Deanna. I appreciate them. Clearly they make a lot of sense. I guess, you are able to continue in your way despite any negative energy being directed at you. Does that ability come from the awareness that you have developed and staying grounded or did Reiki help you in that. Also, how did you get interested in Reiki? Is it a form of energy healing? I am particularly intrigued by your comments that you practice Reiki on your clients. Is that something you can do without them knowing consciously? How have you seen Reiki help your clients?

I began the study of energy when I realized that it effected me so much, I could have an encounter with someone and feel so down, when I would leave my happy feelings returned. I then realized how much we ( or at least I am ) are effected by someone else's energy, positive or negative. In my studies I ran across Reiki. It is an energy healing. It is seeing someone perfect the way that God created them to be, no matter what they are wearing at this particular time, sending them strong love healing energy. I took the classes and became certifided. I have not developed the ability to negate negative energy, I have grown to see it for what it is, and not wear it myself. I know that it is not directed at me. It is something that someone else is experiencing. At the end of my day, I hope I have listened, with compassion, that I have given encouragement, hope and love. That I have given to my clients someone who cares.

But after my day I cannot tell you what their woes were. It just doesn't stay with me any longer than at the time that I hear them. I do really care. When they leave, I bless them with love and see them as perfect as they were created. I know that "I" do not have to wear their experience, and I believe that they are where they are on purpose for their life experience. Reiki is giving love energy to everyone you touch, it comes through the vortex in the palm of your hands and your heart. It is spiritual love! It is wonderful, it blesses me as much as it does them. When you hold your child and stroke them with love, you are doing Reiki. It is so very healing. Everyone has the ability to give true spiritual love.

How have I seen Reiki help my clients? When they come in and are down, then leave happy and up. I see it! I have clients that have had cancer, when I hear their next checkup was clear? I see it! It is the healing power of love and seeing them in my mind well and healthy. When they leave feeling beautiful after they came in feeling ugly, not just their hair but their spirit too. I see it! I could do a whole email just about changes I have seen.

Our minds are creative. I choose to see what I want to happen.
Good health is a choice, if I can put a positive and loving thought in another persons mind, I feel good about that. It is a seed and it can grow to create good in their life.

You are a Doctor, what wonderful things you can do. Have you read Wayne Dyers book, "You Will See It When You Believe It" ? Each person has the ability to believe in the good positive fact that God wants the very very best for them. Feel how wonderful that thought feels! With that on your side, what more could we want! We all have the ability to plant that seed in everyone's mind that we meet!

This reply is getting so long but one more thing I would like to say, there are people who want to be sick, there are people that want to be sad, there are people that just want attention from someone, anyone and there are people who want to die. If they could change their mind, they would change their life experience. When I use the Reiki energy, I send it with the thought that it delivers the very very best for that person. Only God and that person knows what that is. I do not!

Isn't life interesting!

Last night after I wrote this reply I thought geez, I sound like I am this wonderful spiritual person that has everything together. I do well with the stuff and people that are out there. But up close and personal is where I have my studies. I really do react this way with others out there, when it is someone close to me, that is where I can't seem to get there yet. I take it all so personal. I am working on that, and I will get there. We are all spiritual beings having a human experience and we all have lessons to learn and understand. I assume that is why we are here. I am seeking the understanding. How do you tell if it is the mirror of you that you are looking at, or is it that other persons issues?
It seems to be a fine line at times.
Love to all,

Deanna,
Thanks for such beautiful thoughts. (I typed a response last night which apparently got lost in the computer storage room). What you have said seems very genuine, insightful and sincere. I hope to reach your level. it does appear that Reiki has helped you and your clients tremendously. Did you look at any other energy healing art? also, I believe it can help me personally and in my profession. How do I go about learning more about it or finding a class/teacher that is reliable.

I have often wondered, there are a lot of people who come to me for evaluation and I develop a good feel for them and tell them what needs to be done. Then, I never see them until it's literally too late. I guess, part of your response did address this by saying that once you have sent healing energy and love towards them you essentially let them be, also, this is very hard to follow when it is someone near and dear like my wife.

I truly appreciate your thoughts and input and look forward to hearing more from you.

I was blessed to find a class on Rieki that the instructors were so very spiritual and not just out for profit. There were six of us in the class, the glow in the room was like the sun was right in there with us. The positive loving energy in that room was amazing! In further reading I found a wonderful book written by a Doctor in Australia. It was a book that I ordered through the mail. She really put it in a nut shell. I have loaned that book to a friend. I will get it back and post her name and address of where to order it. It is a wonderful book.

It sounds like you are at the same crossroads that I am, as far as these wonderful people that are close to us. You will be healing to your wife just by seeing the God in her and blessing her with love and all of the good thoughts you can muster. We can never change another person, even when they are someone we love very much. If you can look at life with the understanding that all out there is telling you something, it sheds a lot of light. Your wife may be being told to go in another direction, to find a different place to shower her loving attention. So many times a negative is just showing us a turning point, to go another way, and that is all it is. Maybe we put to much importance on what we see as a negative sometimes. To let go and be guided, and to follow that guidance.

Gosh, I think I just told myself somthing!

Being a Doctor, you have chosen a path that will either be very healing, to you and others, or could be very draining. It will be your choice of which you want it be for you. It would be as important for you, as it is for me to be able to give the best love you can, but then to turn it over to the all knowing spirit of how it turns out. To bless these wonderul spiritual beings with love, give them the best you can, in direction, advise, whatever you can do and then let them go, to be whatever it is that they need to be at this time in their life.

Have you ever thought a thought and then have someone say it out loud to you right after that? That is how we are all connected and the loving healing thoughts you have about someone else does reach them on a sub-conscious level! That is all we can ever do for someone else, even our family members that we love so much. To see them whole, healthy and perfect has so much power!

But from then on it is their choice, they will choose if they are going to be well, sick, happy or sad, in spirit and body, and they will do whatever it takes to get there, whichever choice they make, then we as supportive spirits must let them be and love them anyway! I always would say that to my kids, whatever they did, "I love you anyway!" They always and still do know that I and my love are here for them, no matter what!

To give another person the freedom to choose whatever they want in their life is the greatest gift we can give, don't you think? To me that is true love! Sometimes it is the hardest with someone we love.

Know that what you ask for will show up on your doorstep. Ask the great power that is to show you the way to a wonderful spiritual Reiki instructor, then let it go, they will come to you!
Love and healing to you!

So glad to find you all here! This is one of my favorite places at the moment.

Not enough time for *reflection* so I'll be back. Just glad that Deanna joined the discussion. Detaching and not personalizing events that happen to those close to me has been very difficult lately. These dicussions help me to focus on what I need to do for myself.

Bailey White an essayist for NPR gave a beautiful illustration of this back in 1995 or so during the hurrican season. She told of two aunts. As the hurrican approached, one aunt stayed up all night in a hallway closet praying. The other aunt prayed and went to bed sleeping soundly.

It is in our ability to believe and trust that there is a purpose in everything and while we do have free will, it is the acceptance that we do not have any control over anything beyond our own skin. We are responsible for doing the best we can, and the best we can do is take care of ourselves so that our energy is used in a positive way.

Looking forward to info on reiki. Is it possible that these classes are in Kansas? Talk about doorstep.

Hazel,
Where you are you Kansas? I do know of some Reiki Classes that are being held close to me, however I received my training when I lived in Texas.
One of the most challenging and rewarding things we can to do with our loved ones is to realize that their path may be quite different than ours or what we think theirs should be. Giving them the freedom of their very own choice, excepting their choice and loving them anyway!

Simple woman with simple ways, I had meant to develop this further saying that my most content times are spent weeding the flower bed, working in the garden.

then I heard this on NPR and writer David Budbill says it all...

THIS SHINING MOMENT IN THE NOW

When I work outdoors all day, every day, as I do now, in the fall,
getting ready for winter, tearing up the garden, digging potatoes,
gathering the squash, cutting firewood, making kindling, repairing
bridges over the brook, clearing trails in the woods, doing the last of
the fall mowing, pruning apple trees, taking down the screens,
putting up the storm windows, banking the house - all these things,
as preparation for the coming cold...

when I am every day all day all body and no mind, when I am
physically, wholly and completely, in this world with the birds,
the deer, the sky, the wind, the trees...

when day after day I think of nothing but what the next chore is,
when I go from clearing woods roads, to sharpening a chain saw,
to changing the oil in a mower, to stacking wood, when I am
all body and no mind...

when I am only here and now and nowhere else - then, and only
then, do I see the crippling power of mind, the curse of thought,
and I pause and wonder why I so seldom find
this shining moment in the now.

Deanna, I live in Abilene.

Seven years back, a friend of mine completed Reiki healing level 1. She did a session with me and it was truly a remarkable experience. It was as relaxing and refreshing as a massage. One odd thing did happen, at one point even though I did not feel overwhelming sadness tears flowed uncontrollably.

Several years later when I had scheduled a massage with a therapist. The woman commented that she had just returned from Reiki training and would I be willing to let her perform Reiki instead of the massage. I experienced nothing.

Possibly another example of conscious vs internal acceptance.

I don't know. *Big Grin*

It has been a full productive day. Too many interruptions to continue posting. Hopefully, I will make time later to venture back here.

This is turnig out ot be such a wonderful forum, I think I have learnt a lot more here than from any of my readings. I am certainly looking forward to Reiki. In the meantime, I have started positive visualization in support of people close to me particularly my wife. I do this in the beginning of my meditation. I send loving supportive thoughts while visualizing my wife in a positive "happy" light. I believe, I am seeing good results. Have either one of you any thoughts about this? It is also making it easier, to let loved ones follow their path, as I feel that I have done my part. Does this make sense??

They are washing the windows on the building where I work, it is my hope that will bring on rain! Greetings from dusty Kansas. Planting and late fall harvest and the sky is heavy with d u s t.

Thoughts are fluent but my words may not be!

When we cultivate the practice of positive visualization we experience less internal conflict, and learn to appreciate ourselves more. It helps us to empathize more, and to be more considerate, kind, and forgiving. We learn to love our true selves. In turn we also learn to appreciate others more, concentrating more on their positive qualities and less on their faults.

Emotions are habits, and are actively created. It seems like they have a life of their own because we aren't conscious of exactly how we create them. Through meditation and positive visualization we can bring more awareness into our emotional life. We can cultivate the emotions we want to experience (those that make us and others happy), and discourage the arising of those we don't want (those that make us unhappy and generate conflict with others).

Positive visualization on others is a bit like growing seeds. You can't make a seed grow. All you can do is provide warmth, water, and soil, and then be patient. With your daily practices, you are cultivating a sense of love and well being.

I am always impressed as to how fluently you express your thoughts. it must be because they come from within. what you said, does help me in continuing my daily practices. Thank you.

Thanks

Yes, It makes sense to me, the energy hound! And it works beautifully in my world! Can I give you another thought? What if your body does everything you tell it to do? Listen to the self talk of people! Interesting subject!

************Positive Thoughts*************

Hazel, I lived in Abilene for 17 years...left there about 8 years ago. I could not find Reiki around that part of Kansas, I would drive to Wichita to the Unity Church and take classes on various spiritual subjects.

"What if your body does everything you tell it to." It is easy to find supportive information regarding the body's reaction to negative energy such as stress, in illnesses such as IBS etc that specifically say it is contributed to stressfull life style conditions. That is where I find that in a general observation the medical community will prescribe medication in lieu of behavioral modification.

My Rieki friend who lives in Salina, obtained her training in New Mexico. With her help and guidance I have been given the gift of realizing that I do not choose to be a victim. I am a creator. In respect to this, I thought of buying some of that flip flop jewelry! As a reminder that I am working to establish the internal qualities to consistantly believe that to be true!

A dear friend of mine who happens to live in Wichita has been treated for cancer during the past year. She is a very optimistic forward thinking person. Her attitude and self talk are a perfect demonstration of what you mention, Deanna.

Seven years ago I began to spend a great amount of time in the Wichita area. It is a community that offers more opportunities to develop spiritually. Abilene in general is not open minded. I will look into the Unity Church.

Gentle cleansing rain is falling! And it is fairly warm that dancing naked in the rain is not outside the realm of possibility. Of course I live far out in the backwoods that others are spared of the sight!

What telling my body to do is important in my life...

Imagine someone saying to you "I am your constant companion. I am your greatest helper or your heaviest burden. I will push you onward or drag you down to failure. I am completely at your command. I am easily
managed, but you must be firm with me. Those who are great, I have made great. Those who are failures, I have made failures. You may run me for profit or run me for ruin. It makes no difference to me. Take me, train me, be firm with me, and I will place the world at your feet. Be easy
with me, casual with me, convenient with me, and I will destroy every
dream you have. Who am I? I am your thinking." What is your thinking
saying to you? And more importantly, what kind of guidance do you
provide your own thoughts?

Once I gave myself the name Onion after reading Robert Frost's poem, Life is like an onion, you peel it off one layer at a time and sometimes you cry...

Today I realize that like an onion, chronic illness is the result of many layers, each building on the one before. To get to the center of healing, we must peel back these layers, one by one, together.

Recently, a friend was reminiscing with me about a week we spent together. Being together for those few days helped each of us better undertand the fine line we walk physically and emotionally every day.

She went on to say that her prayer for me was to consistently find that ever-elusive balance in it all.

I thought she summed it up very well. I often feel like I am walking on a
balance beam to keep things on an even keel and it takes a lot of
concentration. Finding that ever-elusive balance of living with a chronic illness requires a lot of work. We need to gather enough information about our illness so that we know how to manage our symptoms as best we can and develop some quality of life.

There are still the dimensions of balancing work and play, rest and activity, being with people and being alone. Oh, and then there is that other factor of balancing our grief and joy. You know, those emotions that keep popping up and demanding attention. There is a fine line that we walk that requires acknowledging and accepting our limitations, which requires some grieving. But there are gifts that we can take joy in that help to balance that grieving.

For those, like myself who are still in the full-time work force, there is
the added dimension of doing the balancing act in the work place and
keeping on an even keel.

Recently a friend from work stopped by the house on a day when I was not doing well. I was attempting to be hospitable and was getting the makings for tea and snacks. That simple task wore me out and I had to sit down and rest. She had not seen this side of me before as I have good shields that I use. She remarked that she hadn’t realized before how difficult my daily life can be. Regardless of what we are experiencing, physical or mental, it’s certainly helpful when people have their own little epiphanies of our lifestyle isn’t it?

September came and went without much introspection on my part because I was occupied with my balancing act. It was not easy to stop and reflect on what a courageous person I am, we all are. Living with an illness that is not life-threatening but irrevocably changes your life takes a great deal of courage. The next time someone even alludes to you in a negative way, be it being lazy, over bearing, self centered, unworthy reflect on what a wonderful human being you are!

Driving in to work today shrouded in fog helped me to realize that I see so little of the world. It is not possible to know others truly as there is so much which shrouds our perceptions. All of my thoughts and attitudes are clouded by my limited vision. It is only when I am centered, balanced and truly living the intention of basic goodness in my life am I receptive and giving.

No, I am talking about what you say, what we all talk about everyday. I'm tried, I'm fat, I'm ugly, I'm sad, and I am such a klutz, and the really big one, I can't remember....how many times in a day have you said that? I could go on and on. What if you say, I feel so good, I remember everything with ease, I am happy, I am healthy, I am strong, I learn new things easily, I am harmoney, I am peace, say whatever it is that you want to be or to happen, not what you don't want.

Try it one day, get up in the morning and say something like, I want to be happy today, I really feel good! I have so much energy, I have a wonderful body that is sooooo healthy, I want to laugh today. You will not believe it....because it really works! It makes me wonder what other wonderful things we could create with this power that we have!
What would your life be like if you realize this is true!
Give it a whirl, for one day, do your own research! You can easily prove it to yourself.....
You will experience a wonderful surprise!
Love to all!

Gosh, Hazel, what in the world did I say to make you think that!

This unit that I live in is in very good condition, it works very well. It is strong, healthy and generally very happy. It has ten fingers and ten toes and all of the internal working parts. Nothing has had to be replaced or removed, or even worked on. It has never been in the shop except to reproduce itself.

Define chronic, it is something that is long in duration. I am renewed each morning that I awake, I have the choice for it to be so. To do this one can release the past, it is gone, done with, over. There is nothing you can do about it now. Each beautiful morning there will be something you can do something about. Live there and there is no chronic!

Love and healing to all!

How very funny! I couldn't imagine. Hey! Take a look at this now, there are many things that are not what they seem!
Yes, I do it every morning, it is the stuff that makes a wonderful day for me. I wanted to post to you anyway about another great author that has so much to offer to you along the lines of healing. Louise Hay, her book "You Can Heal Your Life" is outstanding! She is my mentor!
It is a great read about self talk and affirmations, how they can effect your life.
I do not know where you live but have a wonderful evening, if you are on the west coast, and sweet dreams if you are on the east coast!

Can Spirituality Affect Healing?

Do you feel that the spiritual attitude of health-care providers can affect the healing process?

Yes, I am convinced that the beliefs of health-care providers can affect patients. However, when choosing a physician, spiritual attitudes and issues should not always be paramount. If you’re having surgery, a doctor’s technical skills and solid experience would be more important than his or her personal beliefs. But if you have a serious, chronic illness, or one requiring long-term care, you might want a physician whose beliefs are congruent with yours.

The issue of spirituality and the physician-patient relationship is getting a fair amount of attention in the medical community these days. In one fascinating study at Duke University Medical Center’s VA hospital, a doctor and nurse recruited prayers for patients undergoing various cardiac procedures. Those patients who opted for the outside prayers offered by strangers had 50 percent to 100 percent fewer side effects than did the patients who rejected the offer. A number of small studies reviewed in the June 16, 2004, issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) found that many patients want physicians to consider their spiritual needs; in one study, 48 percent of the patients interviewed wanted their physicians to pray with them.

Only a few studies have looked specifically at physicians’ attitudes and behaviors about spirituality in their dealings with patients. In one study of 476 physicians cited in the JAMA review article mentioned above, 85 percent of the doctors felt that they should be aware of their patients’ religious or spiritual beliefs, but only 31 percent felt that they
advertisement delve into these questions during routine office visits; however, more than twice as many physicians felt that discussing spiritual questions was more appropriate when patients are dying. A study published in the November 2000 issue of Oncology found that medical personnel (nurses as well as physicians) at a New York City cancer center who described themselves as religious were less subject than other practitioners to emotional exhaustion or “diminished empathy.”

Despite increasing interest in spirituality in medical settings, the physicians who discuss spiritual issues with patients are more the exception than the rule. The obstacles seem to be lack of time, lack of training (doctors aren’t taught how to approach and explore these subjects) and difficulty identifying patients who would welcome questions about their spiritual lives and beliefs. This is a sensitive area for both physicians and patients despite emerging evidence that spirituality can play a powerful role in healing. At the program in integrative medicine that I direct in Tucson, Ariz., physicians are trained to take “spiritual inventories" of patients as part of their medical history, to pray with patients when appropriate, and to make recommendations for their spiritual needs.

D Deanna, so thankful that you are blessed with good health and healing energy. What a wonderful opportunity for those near you who are able to experience your healing touch. I agree daily affirmations are important in maintaining our balance when walking a path of basic goodness.

I concur that there are many illnesses today which can be related to negative energy. Unfortunately, chronic illness does affect millions and in my limited perception I can not reason that their disease is based in self hatred.

Illnesses such as Huntings disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Asthma, Diabetes, Cancer, Congenital Heart Ailments, Epilepsy, Cystic Fibrosis, HIV/AIDS can and do benefit from a well rounded treatment program which incorporates proper nutrition, proper medication, affirmative thoughts and a healthy dose of self esteem.

Unfortunately it has been my experience that medication is the primiary focus of the majority of physicians I have come in contact with.

I subscribe to Dr. Weil's email newsletter and thought SC that you might find todays question of interest.

Some additional thoughts for today...

Being reasonable is something that is probably not recognized for its dramatic importance to relationships. We ask, beg, plead for our friends to be reasonable. Being reasonable is basic to all that we do. Things need to make sense for us to be able to understand each other. After all, understanding is based upon reasonable information.

But we tend not to respect reasonableness. It can seem like some sort of trick.

Being reasonable would mean we would have to be responsible for being reasonable people, i.e. have reasons for doing what we do. And it would mean listening to the reasons of others.

Spiritual things are not unreasonable. They redefine reason, deepen it, give new meaning to the experiences we have and the words we use. They become reasonable when we experience and share, move to new understanding.

Make spiritual sense. Be reasonable. Don't expect people to understand what they haven't experienced. That's being reasonable.

Give people reasons for things, help them to understand, help yourself to understand.

Being reasonable is one of the high spiritual callings, to simply make sense to people. Don't bully. When you are perceived as reasonable, people will listen to you. If you are unreasonable they won't pay any attention to you.

Confusing them is not likely to challenge them. It will probably discourage them more than it stimulates them.

Being reasonable builds trust, asks truth. How much more beautiful can it get?

Hazel, how beautiful is this message of yours! I do not agree that chronic conditions come from self hatred. There are so many more different reasons for this to be in any persons life. One can never attempt to judge what it is. Only the person dealing with that event can ever really know. We send them love and healing whoever they are!

This is a wonderful discussion and the article by Dr. Weil has been wella ccepted by the medical community. Not a day goes by when I am amazed at many outcomes (relating to patients) which are contrary to what was expected based on our training. On a scientific level there is a lot of holes that have been unexplained. Some of these are filled in nicely from the spiritual literature. My readings started off in the scientific realm and very soon I saw the principles blend into spirituality almost to the point of non-distinction. In terms of chronic illness, there is a belief that they have to do with unresolved issues of the past. A great book by Dr. Brian Weiss - "Many Lives Many Masters" is phenomenal. Dr. Weiss is a psychiatrist who stumbled onto his discovery accidentally. it may be reasonable to buy the abridged audiotape, by dr. Weiss which can be heard in 2-3 hours.

I am convinced that the physicians energy has a paramount effect on the outcome. Clearly it is not the sole determining factor. My interest began primarily from wanting to be "awakened" and pretty quickly positive effect on my surroundings began. I am not sure if I am totally awakened, but working on it. I have read a lot, am always looking for advice from people who are awakened. You both sound very much awakened and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
