Just wondering what everyone else thinks about the topic of

SPIRITUAL MATERIALISM

This topic was discussed under Dr. Wayne Dyer Articles - 20 Abundance & Prosperity Quotes.

What do you think about spirituality and materialism ?

How does it affect our outlook on enlightenment ?

Or is this topic a taboo subject ?

Please post your thoughts. Thank you.

My thoughts on these two words are that they are literally worlds apart - Spirituality being of the Truth of who I am and materialism being what I think I see in a world I project from thoughts I hold within my mind.

And enlightenment is often a word used by ego for us to try to attain - but what does the word mean to you? Does it mean that I know who I am in Truth? If so, I am enlightened. Does it mean that I am the Light of the world I see? If so, I am enlightened.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Thank you, Ron, your views always have great value.

Ron writes
they are literally worlds apart

Worlds apart in one song (UNIVERSE).

Ron writes

Spirituality being of the Truth

What is TRUTH ? But a perception of what you believe.

"The difference between a flower and a weed, is just your perception." DWD

Ron writes
I am enlightened

This raises another topic. Enlightenment or Awareness ?

There is a great big difference. Alot of us are aware, but to be enlightened, not so sure.

Enlightenment, maybe a few have reached this level of awareness.
Buddha, Jesus Christ, Krishna.

Those who have changed the collective consciousness of mankind.

Thank you, Ron.

I bow to the divine in you.

This quotation is important, even if it seems merely kind of a joke...
Because if our basic materialistic needs aren't satisfied we can't be open to the spiritual and to the call of our soul.

Today people seem to view things only in the dualistic terms of bad and good; spiritual vs material; intellectual vs intuitive; etc. But the dualistic perception isn't a a choice between two elements. The duality is the first step only. We see things as dual, the same way we are dual beings and dual humanity divided between male and female (yin and yang). We live between the two; sometimes we have to make the choice, other times we have to made a balance, and still other times we have go further and make choices involving something totally unexpected and to improvise in lines of actions or thinking creative and brand new...

I think it comes down to our desires. If we see, or imagine, or think about something we desire, whether material or spiritual, long enough for our Spirit to provide emotion around it, we can manifest it, as long as we persist in 'thinking from the end' or imagining that we are or have what we imagine.

Some of us spiritually manifest material desires. Others manifest spiritual desires. Most of us manifest both. And that is OK. I agree with majelmarly's post, "... if our basic materialistic needs aren't satisfied we can't be open to the spiritual and to the call of our soul". When we are ready, our desires will naturally become more spiritually oriented. We desire something for a reason - whether it is spiritual or material is not the issue, the Spirit given desire and the manifestation of it are reason enough. Each time we intentionally manifest a Spirit led desire, we evolve. Our next desire is something that will help us evolve to the next level. As we continue to intentionally manifest, our desires continually evolve.

While some of our desires may be ego driven, I believe if we are ‘being spiritual’ our desires come from the Soul, whether material or physical. We can tell where they come from by how we feel about the desire. Our feelings are the ‘language of the Soul’; our Inner Guidance system that lets us know whether we are on the right path. If our desire brings us joyful, happy, excited, loving, accepting feelings, manifesting it can only help us. If our desire is defined by feelings of jealousy, envy, revenge, anger, judgment, etc., manifesting it will draw us away from our goal of being One with Source (and all that is).

I am certainly manifesting both spiritual and material desires in my life…and my feelings tell me they are Spirit led desires. As long as I am a Spiritual Being in a Physical body, I imagine that will continue…and since I am imagining it that way, it will be that way, until I change my mind about it. As I evolve, I will naturally change my mind, not giving the old a second thought (of guilt or regret). As one of the WD prosperity quotes said (paraphrased) “I will grow, but I am perfect the way I now am.” Growth doesn’t make us more perfect, it just makes us perfect differently. As for me, at this point in my evolution, I'll take the million dollars.

I learn and understand very well reading GentleGiant comment.
Thanks, Very Much

Nevertheless, as for the conclusion (I quote ) "As for me, at this point in my evolution, I'll take the million dollars." , I think maybe I made myself misunderstood.
The point I wanted to bring was that money and material stuff were of value and importance since we're living in the material world! When we'll reach the Nirvana or any other plan -or if we would be living in a monastery in Thibet- money would be of no significance at all, and it wil be good and liberating!

But in this plan of the world, we need it and it is an element of value because it is the instrument permitting us being free. More you have money, more you have choices, access to information, culture, cares, etc... When I was younger I was very disdainful about money and material things... now I understand we have to respect what allows us to be ourselves and develop and grow and evolve (on this plan of the world...)

Your welcome, majelmarly. The conclusion in my last post wasn't in response to what you wrote, but a 'tongue in cheek' response to the quote in wizdumb's post "If someone offers you a million dollars or Enlightenment....
....... take the million dollars." - Ramesh Belsakar

Thanks for your comments and the teaching you bring to me.
